On many business websites, most visitors arrive on a phone. They are often on the move, typing with one thumb, with a small screen and a patchy connection. Website chat has to be designed for that.
Do not cover the page
A chat window that fills the whole screen hides the content the visitor came for. On phones, the chat should open as a sheet that leaves the page visible behind it, and close easily.
Selo Assist's widget opens as a compact sheet on phones and never covers the whole page.
Keep the button out of the way
The chat button should not cover your own call-to-action buttons, cookie banners or navigation. Choose the left or right corner to suit your site.
Short answers win
Long paragraphs are hard to read on a phone. Assistants should answer briefly and offer more detail if asked. Replies that appear word by word feel faster than a long wait for a block of text.
Make typing optional
Product cards that can be tapped, and a short pre-chat form only when you really need it, save visitors from typing on small keyboards.
Load fast
Every extra second of loading costs visitors on mobile networks. The chat script should be small and load without blocking the page. The Selo Assist loader is under one kilobyte.
