Most chat greetings say "Hi! How can I help you today?". It is polite, and it is easy to ignore. A greeting that names what the assistant can actually help with gets more people to ask their first question.
Keep it short and specific
One or two lines. Mention two or three things people often ask about, so visitors know what to expect.
"Hi! Ask me about prices, opening hours or booking an appointment." tells the visitor exactly what they can do.
Match the tone of your business
A law firm and a beach café should not sound the same. Formal businesses can greet with "Welcome. How may we help you?" while casual brands can be warmer.
In Selo Assist you choose a formal or friendly tone for the assistant's replies as well, so the greeting and the conversation feel consistent.
Examples by industry
Clinic: "Hello! I can help with prices, insurance and appointment requests." Online shop: "Hi! Questions about delivery, returns or sizes? Ask away." Restaurant: "Welcome! Ask about our menu, opening hours or a table for tonight."
Home services: "Hi! Tell me what needs fixing and I will explain our prices and availability." Real estate: "Hello! Ask about a property, a payment plan or booking a viewing."
Greet in two languages if your customers do
If many customers write in Arabic and English, put both in the greeting. It signals immediately that either language is welcome.
The assistant itself answers in whatever language the customer writes in, so the greeting is about making people comfortable, not limiting them.
Test it, then change it
Watch how many chats start after you change the greeting. A greeting is the easiest thing in your chat to improve: it is one line, and you can change it in seconds.
